Run sun, view, noise and wind simulations

Sun

A Yearly, a Monthly, and an Hourly Sun time and energy simulations are run by default. Parameters need to be changed only in particular cases.

Free View

In Free-view simulations the open space around a Sensor Point is quantified as a fraction of a visible area or volume around it. For this purposes circles and sectors of spheres can be used. The Free-View Length should be defined according to the distance of the existing obstructions (e.g. maximal free view distance) or to the goal of your investigation. For example you can change the length if you want to investigate the variation in close views (urban space, ranging typically some tens or hundreds of meters) or in far views (openness of horizon, typically kilometers). Results will have absolute values, but will be presented in a relation to the maximal free distance. If you see that around your site the relevant highest urban glimpses have a depth of 300m, then 300m may be a good choice. If instead you want to investigate the long-range openness of the horizon, 30 km may be a good choice. Some references state that over 100m the perception of 3D space becomes inaccurate, therefore 100m has been set as default arbitrary value.

Target View

Combine the custom polygons you have drawn in the geodata in different combinations (e.g. Mountain 1, Mountain 1 + Mountain 2, Mountain 2).

Add Simulation 4

Noise

Select the category of streets you want to include in the traffic noise simulation. To preview the categories of the streets around your site go on OpenStreetMap, type the address of your site, right-click on the streets, and click on query features.

Wind

UrbanMetrix provides you the wind normals of the closest Meteosuisse Wind measurement station. Observe the wind roses (yearly, seasonal, and monthly) and decide how many wind simulation to run according to the number of relevant wind patterns. The parameters of the main wind pattern are provided as default. If the closest Meteosuisse station is relatively far from your site, or if there are relevant obstructions between the two (e.g. a mountain) you need to look for data from a closer meteorological station to define the simulation input.
