Orient Facades

You can configure your Design Scheme's facades to align dynamically with the main direction of any selected data layer. This feature allows you to orient building envelopes independently of the building's baseline shape, whether you want facades to face a target viewpoint, maximize solar exposure, or track specific environmental vectors, such as aligning with the evening sun using the Hourly Sun layer.

How to Align Facades Dynamically

Once you have created a Design Scheme and defined its boundaries, follow these steps to activate the orientation mapping:

  1. Enable Horizontal Orientation: Inside the configuration panel, navigate to the Facades options and select Horizontally Oriented.
  2. Assign the Target Layer: Select the reference data layer you want the facades to track.
  3. Refine Direction across geometries: Choose how the alignment is calculated across your model. This value can be computed using three different reference scales: Volume, Facade, or Floor averages.
  4. Define Geometry Subdivisions: Adjust the Segment Width parameter to control how finely the building envelope is subdivided into individual facade elements.
  5. Real-Time Synchronization: If you select a dynamic layer like Hourly Sun, the layout and orientation of the facades will update automatically in the 3D scene in real time as you scrub through different hours of the day in the Data Layer panel.
